Is Cataloochee Valley Open 2021?
Open mid-March through October. Tents or RVs up to 31 feet. Group camping is also available by advance reservation. There are several enjoyable trails to hike in Cataloochee.
Is there cell service at Cataloochee Campground?
It is not possible to pay at the campground, and you cannot make a reservation from here because there is no cell phone service. Even communication between the campground host and the National Park Service is via radio.
Is Cataloochee Valley closed?
The planned roadwork to Cove Creek Road has been postponed indefinitely, so the main entrance to Cataloochee will remain open. As always, the road is still subject to closure due to weather, so always check the National Park website before your trip.

Where can I see elk in Cataloochee?
Most of the elk are located in the Cataloochee area in the southeastern section of the park. The easiest way to reach Cataloochee is from Interstate highway I-40. Exit I-40 at North Carolina exit #20. After 0.2 mile, turn right onto Cove Creek Road and follow signs 11 miles into Cataloochee valley.
